Fahy's Felines' First Mice!

So, tonight I went out to buy a set of sheets. The shop was closed, so I bit my tongue and wandered over to the local pet shop (I don't like them, I can't stand how they care, or don't care for, their animals and sell to anyone!) Anyway, I took a peak in their freezer and bought four mice, I guess they are about full sized mice. They are the same price as live mice the gal told me. I went to the check out, and freaked some customer out. She laughed nervously and said, "why don't you make it fun and buy the live ones if they are the same price?" I really shouhd have freaked her out even more and pointed out they were for my kitties


So, the cashier rang me up - $12 and change for four mice! Well, she thought they were small rats, turns out these mice were $1.99 a piece, which perhaps is okay, but eek, I couldn't afford that as their main meals that is for sure! I already spend more on their food in a month than I do on my husband and myself! We spent a little over $100 on 15 chickens recently, a chicken lasts them a day, sometimes two if it is larger.


Okay, so I took the mice out and they smell dirty. Like urine and feces. Yuck. I ran a shop for a friend for some time, she had breeder mice that we cleaned thoroughly every day, they did not smell like this.





So, I washed the buggers in water and then put them in a dish of water. I don't know if that is some oddball idea I came up with, or if it is in the back of my mind (soak in water for extra water consumption) They do not look dirty at all, I just suppose my nose is sensitive and I was not expecting that.... later I was told this is very normal for mice.





Anyway, seems like I read somewhere that Sandy at Holisticat lets one of her guys hunt his own and then she freeze them? I'd like to read more about that. My guys don't really go out, nor do they hunt, but it's interesting.


After I left, I wished I had picked up some crickets ( I read the cricket thread recently) My guys love playing in big boxes and what fun it would be to add a couple of crickets!
